Step 1: Open Chase Total Checking from account.chase.com/consumer/banking/seo by 10/14/2026 (the offer code is applied on that page).
Step 2: In your payroll or benefits portal, send at least $1,000 of direct deposit to the new account (splitting part of your paycheck works).
Step 3: Keep $500+ in electronic deposits coming in each month, or hold a $1,500 balance, so the $15 fee is waived after the first 2 statements.
Step 4: Look for the $400 within 15 days of meeting the requirement. Keep the account open and in good standing until it's paid.
Step 5: Save for taxes: the bonus is reported on a 1099-INT.
